What to look for in Vein Practice
Specialty Interest
Many physicians and surgeons are trained in the basics
of varicose vein treatment. As in many fields, individuals specializing
in a specific area often are able to offer more experience and options
in diagnosis and treatment than those who treat only occasional patients.
Experience
Dr. Torpy has practiced vascular surgery for over 25 years
in Omaha. He is a member of the American College of Phlebology,
an organization dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment
of venous problems.Over the past five years, the majority
of his time and interest has been in the treatment of
vein problems. He has performed over 3000 VNUS Closure®
procedures.
Certification and Training
Dr. Torpy is board certified in surgery by the American College of Surgeons and recently earned board certification in the specialty of phlebology (vein care) by the American Board of Phlebology. He has attained certification in the new technologies of VNUS Closure® and Trivex® phlebology. He is a member of the American College of Phlebology (ACP) - the largest phlebology society in the United States and is the only physician in Nebraska and Iowa to earn board certification from the ACP.
Diagnostic Procedures
Every patient is different, and it is essential
to determine the underlying cause of varicose veins. A history and physical
examination is very informative. However, duplex ultrasound examination
is the gold standard for diagnosis of venous problems. Duplex ultrasound
examination should be performed before any treatment of varicose veins
is undertaken.
Innovation
Totally Vein is the first and only dedicated vein practice in the Omaha area. We introduced the use of VNUS Closure® system to the area and were the first to utilize office-based outpatient endovenous procedures. We are one of only approximately ten U.S. centers to introduce the Veinwave™ technique of spider vein treatment. We believe this reflects our dedication to the treatment of venous disease.
